Jennifer Bell is the bioethicist for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM) and scientist within the department of psychosocial oncology and palliative care at PM. She is an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and member of the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics. Jennifer received a bachelor's degree in philosophy specializing in bioethics from the University of Toronto, a master's degree in philosophy and biomedical ethics from McGill University, and a Ph.D. in bioethics from the University of British Columbia.


Her program of research applies the ethical framework respect for patient autonomy to complex decisional contexts in cancer care. Most recently she has been a co-investigator on several national research grants funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research investigating patients’ decision-making processes and autonomy related to cancer clinical trial participation.
